In a recent interview, I was an amateur. Not something I’m used to name and the truth is known, is not addressed to me per se, but the world of online blogs and social media. I definitely feel insulted because I now find myself adding these comments online world.
The amateurisation called journalism seems to be caused unrest in the “real” writers and journalists, who see the extent of their influence reduced. The idea that if everyone can not do it professionally or legally is a concern shared by many people in the old media.
All this is of course a very broad brush strokes and I had some numbers to find the comeback on the new status of my amateur. There are approximately 130 million blogs, according to research sites like Blog Pulse, and 1.73 billion Internet users according to Internet World Stats. That equates to just over 7% of web users involved in blogging and the percentage may be less because bloggers with multiple sites.
Of those 130 million blogs, 75% were written for personal fulfillment, the desire to write and communicate with a small circle of readers. This leaves 1.75% of web users who want to expand through the blogosphere, opinion, commentary and reporting of issues and events? Some of this area has millions of readers and direct competition on the front pages of newspapers and news 6:00. They usually come from a background in journalism, but the rest of the blogging community should not be threatening the old-style media reporters. Indeed, I spoke with several people (hi there) is willing to read my comments while shooting Award legacy media in a big crowd.
So why the attention?
Of course there are elements of the stock market gains and losses. A good example is the Flikr, 4000000000 sharing images with which every citizen the opportunity for a professional or amateur photos for their own purposes. Along with the digitization of photography, no longer need to source a professional photography for your needs.
But the main concern appears around issues of control, integrity and brand management of information. The only thing to say, it’s too late. The reason is that blogs are developing the reader’s attention and not what the newspapers are always after?
Amateur rules, the order of the day and reporting data twice from the blog site every six to nine months subject to the needs of the community to communicate and through other media channels to read.
I feel better about the fact that an amateur. Indeed there are now more than 130 million of us and we can not all be wrong.
